Foundation Programme

What is Foundation?

The BMU Foundation Programme is a one-year course, which aims to prepare students for academic success at university.

 

Why BMU?

  • The BMU Foundation Programme is validated by the University of Reading (UK) TOP-30 in the UK and TOP-250 of the best universities in the world
  • Upon completion of the BMU Foundation Programme, students will receive a Foundation Diploma from the University of Reading that will allow them to continue their studies in many universities in the U.K. and other countries.
  • The Programme is fully taught in English by a team of highly qualified international and local educators.

Who are our candidates?

Graduates of schools, lyceums, and vocational colleges with an English level not lower than IELTS 5.5 or equivalent (not lower than TOEFL 46).

For those who do not have a minimum IELTS 5.5 certification, we offer a FREE BMU English exam, co-created and approved by the University of Reading, Great Britain, which takes place in the format of face-to-face testing.

What awaits you at the Foundation Programme at BMU?

International English (2 semesters)

Students will develop communicative competencies and prepare for studying in the bachelor’s programme in English by:
• developing academic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills
• acquiring the necessary knowledge of academic vocabulary and writing texts in accordance with the academic convention
• getting acquainted with different types of texts and genres of writing
• learning strategies for taking notes and analyzing academic texts
• conducting basic academic research and successfully participating in training sessions and seminars.

ACADEMIC SKILLS (2 semesters)

Students will gain a wide range of skills necessary for successful studies in a university environment by:
• getting acquainted with the academic culture, fundamental research and the structure of the learning process
• mastering the basic skills of critical thinking and self-presentation
• developing self-study skills, including time management and exam preparation
• learning how to successfully speak in public, participate in debates and discussions.

Introduction to Business and Management (2 semesters)

Students will get acquainted with the main theories and concepts of business and management by:
• gaining an understanding of business processes, the environment and core functions of business administration
• becoming familiar with the role of corporate governance and ethical issues faced by organizations and their employees
• learning how to find creative solutions to business problems, including by evaluating theory in extended academic materials
• practicing the skills needed to make decisions, quantify and manage information.

Quantitative Methods in business (2 semesters)

Students will gain basic knowledge of business mathematics and applied statistics.
• in the first part of the module, students will study some basic applications of algebra and calculus to solve real-life business problems.
• in the second part of the module, students will get acquainted with basic concepts of probability and applied statistics.

Introduction to IT for Business (2 semesters)

Students will be able to develop the skills to use basic information technologies and applications to improve their personal and business efficiency. They will:
• learn the basic concepts of information technology and various applications to improve business performance
• practice using the Windows-based applications (Microsoft Office: Word / Excel / PowerPoint)
• get acquainted with the basics of web design and programming languages (HTML and CSS)
• master the key approaches to ensuring cybersecurity.

Tuition Fees – Foundation Programme

The 2025-2026 annual tuition fee for students with an IELTS certificate of 6.0 or higher (or equivalent: TOEFL ≥ 60, BMU English Exam ≥ HIGH PASS B) is 32 000 000 UZS.

  • The tuition fee is payable two times per academic year in the amount 16 000 000 UZSbefore the beginning of each semester.
  • You can save 5% of the total amount or 1 600 000 UZSby paying 30 400 000 UZS for the full academic year before the start of the autumn semester.

The 2025-2026 annual tuition fee for students with an IELTS certificate of 5.5 (or equivalent: TOEFL 46-59, BMU English Exam = PASS) is 40,000,000 UZS.

  • The tuition fee is payable two times per academic year in the amount 20 000 000 UZS before the beginning of each semester.
  • You can save 5% of the total amout or 2 000 000 UZSby paying 38 000 000 UZS for the full academic year before the start of the autumn semester.
  • 100% grants (Ministry Grants and BMU Social Grant) and 50% grants (BMU Academic Grants) are available to highly qualified applicants. Please see the Grant and Scholarships section for more details.

University grants covering 50-100% of tuition fees will be awarded to two categories of applicants:

1) 50% BMU Academic Grants are awarded to ALL outstanding applicants with outstanding academic achievements.  All grant recipients must satisfy the following minimum criteria:

  • have IELTS ≥ 7.0 (TOEFL ≥ 94, BMU-University English Exam = HIGH PASS A);
  • obtain a high score on BMU Math Exam (16/20 or higher).

 

The 2025-2026 annual tuition fee for 50% BMU Academic Grant recepients is 20 000 000 UZS

  • The tuition fee is payable two times per academic year in the amount 10 000 000 UZS before the beginning of each semester.
  • You can save 5% of the total amout or 1 000 000 UZS by paying 19 000 000 UZS for the full academic year before the start of the autumn semester.

2) 100% BMU Social Grants are awarded up to top 20 outstanding applicants from low-income families. Applicants must provide all relevant documents confirming their low-income status and satisfy the following minimum criteria:

  • have IELTS ≥ 6.0 (TOEFL ≥ 60, BMU English Exam = HIGH PASS B);
  • obtain a high score on BMU Math Exam (16/20 or higher);
  • pass an interview with one of our English instructors (16/20 or higher).

BMU Social Grants are allocated to up to 20 applicants who have met the minimum criteria and ranked on their combined score, from highest to lowest: Combined Score = 5 * IELTS Score + Math Exam Score + Interview Score (the maximum possible Combined Score is 85).

3) 100% Ministry of Education Grants are awarded to outstanding applicants based on a) their academic achievements and b) their chosen specialities.  All grant recipients must satisfy the following minimum criteria:

  • have IELTS ≥ 7.0 (TOEFL ≥ 94, BMU English Exam = HIGH PASS A);
  • obtain a high score on BMU Math Exam (16/20 or higher);
  • pass an interview with one of our English instructors (16/20 or higher).

Ministry of Education Grants are allocated to the designated number of applicants (as determined by the Ministry of Education) who have met the minimum criteria and ranked on their combined score, from highest to lowest:  Combined Score = 5 * IELTS Score + Math Exam Score + Interview Score (the maximum possible Combined Score is 85).

NOTE 1: An application for BMU Social Grants or Ministry of Education Grants can be submitted ONLY after the applicant has received an Offer Letter from the University.  The deadline for submission of all required documents is July 31, 2025.

 NOTE 2: All grants apply for the entire undergraduate programme (4 years), subject to the student’s maintaining a minimum average GPA of 2,0 for each academic year of their studies.  If this condition is not satisfied, the student loses the grant and will be charged the annual tuition fee of 32 000 000.

Monthly stipends

BMU encourages students to succeed academically. After the first semester, students with high academic performance are granted a «Gold» or «Silver» stipend in the amount of up to 1,000,000 UZS (1 million sums) for the «Gold» category and 500,000 UZS (500 thousand sums) for the «Silver» category.

Graduates who successfully complete the Foundation year can continue their studies in one of the Bachelor’s programmes of the British Management University. Students who have completed all required modules and a final project in their chosen field of study will be eligible to take professional certification exams where possible.
