Rodney Louw

Instructor
English Language Centre

Biography

Mr. Rodney Louw is from the coastal city of Port Elizabeth in South Africa, and has been teaching English in East and Central Asia for over a decade. Though he originally studied commerce at university and intended to have a career in the finance industry, Rodney quickly discovered his passion for education during his first teaching engagement in South Korea in 2010, where he taught in a local elementary school for two years. Since then he has taught in several locations across Asia including China, Malaysia, Timor-Leste, and Singapore.

Throughout his career, Rodney has shared the classroom with students of diverse ages and backgrounds, and has taught on a wide range of courses including business English, exam preparation, English for academic purposes, and military English programmes. His professional interests in the field of ELT vary considerably and include the development of learners’ academic skills, high-stakes exam preparation classes, teacher training, and language school management. He believes one of the best ways to learn is through immersing yourself in the language as far as possible – speak, read, write, and listen to as much English as you can.

Mr Louw joins the British Management University in Tashkent with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Rhodes University, specialising in Economics and Management, as well as a CELTA certificate. He is also currently due to complete the final module of his DELTA (Diploma of English Language Teaching to Adults) qualification from the University of Cambridge in December 2020.
