Visiting Professor
Ph. D. in Geography,
University of Cambridge, UK
Nick Megoran is professor of Political Geography at Newcastle University, England, and Visiting Professor at the British Management University, Tashkent. His primary research focuses on the development of nation-states and international boundaries, in particular in Central Asia. In an age of border closures, he is also interested in how borders can be reopened (and what the world can learn from Central Asia’s example) and how humans can use geography creatively to promote peaceful relations. Books on these topics include Halford Mackinder and the International Relations of Central Asia (Hurst, 2013), Nationalism in Central Asia (Pittsburgh, 2017), and Geographies of Peace (I.B. Tauris, 2014).
Professor Megoran also maintains an interest in questions of human value, and how these play out in contexts where Human Resource Management techniques are deployed, in particular in universities, schools, and the public sector. He has published this work in journals including Geografiska Annaler, Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and The African Journal of Business Ethics.
