The LRC is here to enhance your learning experience at BMU, offering modern technology, a variety of learning spaces, and academic support tailored to your needs. The BMU library provides access to academic textbooks and a collection of general and fiction literature, organized in accordance with the Dewey Decimal Classification system. For daily operations, BMU is using the Library Management System (LMS).

 

The library premises are divided into the following zones:

  • General Study / Collaborative Zones — for collaborative study, open discussion and public meetings.

  • Silent Zone - for focused study and working in silence.

 

The Learning Resource Centre is located in the main academic building (D-Block). 

 

LRC working hours:

Monday - Friday: 9.00 - 20.00.

Saturday: 9.00 - 18.00.

A fully equipped computer lab is available for students with access to electronic books and databases. BMU students have access to the following electronic resources:

 

  • Queen Margaret University's library - QMU's e-book collections & databases.

  • EBSCO - EBSCO host grants access to full text materials for 1,700 periodicals, 500 reference books and 164,400 primary source documents.

  • Science Direct - contains articles and book chapters from more than 2,500 peer-reviewed journals and 11,000 books.

 

To access either database, users must be present on campus and be using the BMU IP address.

1) If I don’t see the book I want, what can I do?

• Approach the library information desk and make your request to include this title in the learning resource provision.

 

2) Is the library open on holidays or weekends?

• Library hours can be extended on demand before and during exams.

 

3) How can I access the digital database?

• You must be present on BMU campus to access the digital library and database. The databases are subscribed using BMU IP address therefore neither login or password are required. Except of QMU library, you can have an access anywhere using your login and password.
 

4) How do I borrow books?

• To borrow a book you have to approach the Information Desk and provide your Student ID Card. Librarians will check out your book and provide all relevant information about the due date.

 

5) How many books can I borrow?

•  Students can borrow up to three books.

All users must fully comply at all times with the rules and regulations governing the use of LRC services. These are embodied in the printed document entitled “Library Regulations” available at the Information desk.

 

Some of the rules and regulations include:

 

• Demonstrating acceptable standards of behavior;

• Applying proper treatment and permissible use of materials and equipment;

• Abiding by legal copyright requirements;

• Returning or renewing all borrowed materials on or before the due date.
