Professor of Computer Science
Ph.D. in Computer Science
King’s College London, U.K.
Professor Timur Umarov has been affiliated with academia since 1998. He gained his first teaching experience at Northern Arizona University, where he worked as a tutor during his undergraduate studies for several courses including Calculus, Discrete Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, and Chemistry, among others. For 11 years, he was affiliated with the Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, serving as Associate Dean, Dean of the IT Faculty, and later Vice Rector for Academic Affairs. During this period, he led numerous successful academic initiatives in program development, dual-degree programmes, and international accreditations, and was recognized with the Distinguished Faculty Award by the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan.
One of his major achievements was securing ABET accreditation (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, USA) in 2010 for all three IT programs under his direct supervision at KBTU: Automation & Control, Information Systems, and Computer Systems. He subsequently oversaw their re-accreditation up until now, consistently achieving outcomes with no shortcomings or improvement recommendations from ABET. Since 2018, Professor Umarov has served as an ABET Program Evaluator for Computer Science programs, participating in accreditation visits to universities in the United States, Lebanon, Qatar, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia, among others. He continues to serve as an evaluator and accreditation consultant for universities in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and worldwide.
Professor Umarov earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from King’s College London (UK) as a Bolashak scholar (2006--2009), his Master’s degree in Automated Control Systems from Tashkent University of Information Technology (Uzbekistan, 2001--2003), and his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Northern Arizona University (USA) as a recipient of the Umid Foundation scholarship (1998--2001).
