The Research Journey: From Idea to Inquiry

On 2 October 2026, British Management University successfully hosted an open academic dialogue organised by the National Quality Assurance Agency for Education under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in cooperation with BMU. Held as part of Academic Oktoberfest 2026, the event brought together academics from the University of Cambridge, other international scholars, and researchers from across Uzbekistan. The session explored how an initial research idea develops into meaningful academic inquiry. Drawing on their professional journeys, speakers shared practical insights into formulating research questions, selecting appropriate methodologies, maintaining academic integrity, publishing findings, working effectively with supervisors, and developing international research collaborations. PhD students, early-career researchers, Master’s students and independent researchers from universities and research institutions across Uzbekistan engaged directly with the visiting scholars. Presentations, an open Q&A and academic discussion offered opportunities to explore common research challenges, exchange perspectives across disciplines, and consider how research findings can contribute to practice. The dialogue created a welcoming setting for thoughtful questions and the exchange of experience. Its successful completion reinforced the value of connecting Uzbekistan’s emerging researchers with the international academic community and laid a promising foundation for further scholarly exchange and cooperation.
