Vepa Malikgulyyev is a Visiting Professor at British Management University in Tashkent and a private sector and export development specialist with 22 years of professional experience across Central Asia. He holds an MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge as a Chevening Scholar, and a BA (with distinction) in World Economy and International Relations from Turkmen State University. At BMU, he contributes lectures and applied research on economic development, trade and investment policy in Central Asia, market access, and private sector competitiveness, with a focus on practical, evidence-based solutions for businesses and policymakers.
Alongside his academic work, Vepa serves as Director of the Market Access and Policy Center at TurkmenCongress, supporting companies with market entry, operations, and stakeholder engagement in Turkmenistan and the region. His background includes leadership roles in EU and USAID programmes and management consultancy, including work with Deloitte Consulting and Palladium on reforms, SME development, export promotion, ESG, and e-commerce. He is the co-author of a book on Turkmenistan’s WTO accession potential (2017) and has delivered guest lectures at the International University for Humanities and Development in Ashgabat. Since February 2022, he has also been President of the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan.
